LaCrosse Washington
The LaCrosse School District is a small school system that offers its students excellent learning opportunities and amenities not possible in large districts.
The school comprises two buildings serving 150 students. Grades K-5, along with the special programs, are housed in the elementary building. Grades 6-12 are served in the high school building. Both the students and the community take pride in the welcoming and well maintained facilities.
The school system has broad-based community support. School levies approved by the voters allow the school to staff well above the state funded amounts. This enables the school to provide small class sizes in all grade levels. Elementary classes average 11 students per teacher in grades K-3, and 14 students per teacher in grades 4-6. The school's size, and the efforts of the dedicated staff ensure that students in all grade levels receive individualized attention and support.
Two central concepts are constant guides in the development of school programs and learning activities: high achievement standards and high expectations of personal responsibility. Both student achievement and instilling positive character attributes are important to the school, the parents and the community.
Technology is helping to expand learning opportunities for students. Distance learning using computers and the internet has greatly increased students' course offerings and learning resources. New technology learning standards will guide student learning about the use of technology and its use in an integrated learning tool. The current ratio of students to computers is 2:1.
LaCrosse students are fortunate to have a wide variety of extra-curricular activities available that can enrich their educational and personal development. In addition, the school and the community provide many opportunities for families to participate together, including active elementary and secondary sports programs, FFA, 4-H, and Family Night Out programs.
