The Angry Bride

One evening in the early 30’s a group of young married men decided they would go out for a night on the town and party. At least one of the wives was not too happy about this. As the night wore on and on, she got madder and madder as she was home alone. In the wee, small hours of the morning she was a group of men walking down the railroad tracks trying to find their way home. Mabel Wise, the angry bride, went outside and recognizing her husband’s voice, started running toward them. On the way, she picked up a rock. When she got close enough she threw the rock intending to hit her husband, Ike. In her rage, her aim was off and instead of hitting Ike, she hit Guy Grewell in the head, splitting it open.

When Guy and his wife Ollie Brink Grewell, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September 1981, Mabel found another rock, boxed and wrapped it beautifully. She wrote only “To Guy” on the card. When he opened it he knew immediately who it was from and he still had the scar on his head to prove it.
